COLLECTIVE COMMITTEE DEMOCRATIC BURMA 'S STATEMENT
ON NLD AND SPDC'S MEETING
Date: 12 march 2001

National League For Democracy Party led by National leader, Daw Aung San Su Kyi, established on 27th of September 1988, has believed and demanded over the past decade that political crisis can be solved by political techniques.

National League For Democracy Party has given Daw Aung San Su Kyi the responsibility for future meetings with SPDC. NLD and UNLD discussed in July 1995 the main crisis in Burmese politics, national reconciliation implementation.

Therefore, with relation to today's national leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi and SPDC's discussions, we the democracy group in Australia.

  1. Are extremely supportive and welcome the national leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi and SPDC's dialogue. We believe these developments will help Burma's Democracy and Human Rights to be reinstated and that a real democratic country may result from these dialogues.
  2. Believe that the dialogues NLD is having with SPDC are a way towards future benefits for our country and our citizen's welfare.
  3. Understand that national leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi cannot currently proclaim a statement. At this time there is a need for building trust to help ensure the success of the dialogue.
  4. Urge the continuation of discussions until successful outcomes are reached to ensure Burma's future democratic and human rights.
